Supporting literacy at home (5-11 years)

Children with Down syndrome will be working on developing their reading and writing skills at school. However, repetition is important and additional practice at home can be beneficial. Hosted by Dr Becky Baxter, DSUK’s Director of Training and Speech and Language therapy, this session covers activities and games that parents can be doing at home to target literacy skills.
This course is open to all but please be aware that this session is specifically aimed at parents/carers of children with Down syndrome. The session will be recorded and a copy of any slides used by Becky will be shared with all those who register.

Our on-demand sessions give you access to a recording of our online Information Sharing Session ‘Supporting literacy at home’. You will have access for 90 days from the date of sign up you can watch and re-watch the presentation. You will need to be a member of our PADS Parent Portal to access the recording – it’s free to sign-up and if you aren’t already a member you can join here.

We are keen for everyone in the UK to be able to access our information and support. We are offering payment options for our families – the standard cost to attend this session is £5, but we are offering some places at £2.50 for those who are able to contribute but not at the full rate and for anyone for whom finances would prohibit them attending, we are pleased to be able to offer a number of places at no charge. We do not require any evidence of income; we are a parent-led charity, and we trust our families. Please select an option in the box at the top right of the page to pay or register for free here.
