Toilet Training Bootcamp
Our four-week online Bootcamp is for parents of children with Down syndrome who want expert support and a personalised plan to help make real progress with toilet training. Whether you're unsure how to move forward or you've hit a wall, we'd love to help.
This course is for families who have a child with Down syndrome and are struggling to make progress with toilet training – perhaps unsure how to proceed, stuck at a particular stage, or starting to feel like nothing is working.
It’s designed and delivered specifically for children with Down syndrome. Everything covered reflects the way children with Down syndrome learn – so you won’t find yourself filtering out advice meant for different children.
Before joining, we ask that you’ve already started the free Pants4School programme and completed at least steps one and two. This means your child is comfortable sitting on the potty or toilet for short periods and you have the right equipment in place. If you’re not there yet, our free resources are a great place to start.
What the Bootcamp involves
What to expect - and what to prepare for
We want to be honest with you, because we think that helps.
Most children will not be fully toilet trained, completely dry and self-initiating within four weeks. Toilet training takes time, and complete self-initiation often happens in the weeks and months after the programme ends. What Bootcamp does is move your child on from where they are now, help you understand what’s needed for your child specifically, and give you the confidence and tools to keep going.
That said – we’ve seen families make remarkable progress. One mum joined the Bootcamp with her 12-year-old daughter, who had been in nappies for years. Within the four weeks her daughter was toilet trained, and a few weeks after the programme ended her mum got in touch to say she was self-initiating independently. Every child is different.
Our favourite mantra is: patience, persistence and practice pay.
We also believe that preparation makes a real difference. Please use the time before Bootcamp begins to get everything in place – the right equipment, an established routine, and ideally your child’s nursery or school on board with the plan.
Before you start
To get the most from Bootcamp, please make sure that before your first session:
- You have the right equipment: a potty, toilet seat reducer and step, plus washable pants and waterproof covers or puppy pads for when you move to nappy removal
- Your child is comfortable sitting on the potty or toilet for short periods
- You have a basic routine of potty sits in place
- Your nursery or school knows about the programme and is following the same approach where possible

FAQs
Cost and booking
The Bootcamp costs £50 per family.
At Down Syndrome UK, we subsidise many of our services because we believe every family should be able to access support. If cost is a barrier, please get in touch before booking and we’ll do our best to help.
Places are limited to 25 families per group to make sure every family gets individual attention.
Please think carefully before booking. Refunds are not available once a place is confirmed – we ask that you’re in a position to commit to the programme before you sign up.
Can we join if our child is older?
Yes. We’ve supported children from babies through to teenagers. It’s never too late. Older children can sometimes take longer because habits are more established, but the programme works at every age.
What if our child has other health conditions alongside Down syndrome?
June is experienced in supporting children with a wide range of additional needs. When you introduce yourself in the group, share as much as you can about your child’s health so advice can be tailored. If your child has Hirschsprung’s disease or an ano-rectal malformation, please read our guidance on this before joining.
Does our child need to be at a specific stage?
We ask that families have completed at least steps one and two of the Pants4School programme. If you’re not there yet, start with the free resources first.
What happens after the four weeks?
I'm a professional - can I refer families?
Yes, please do. See our professional guidance page for more about the programme and the evidence behind it. For professional training enquiries, contact info@downsyndromeuk.co.uk.
