Training sessions

We value the importance of good quality, evidence-based training, both to our families as well as the professionals who work with them.

For families

Our members can access regular online training opportunities, including Makaton signing for baby, a specially developed Grandparent’s Makaton signing course, as well as adhoc training on subjects including constipation, applying for an EHCP, sensory needs, weaning, dysphagia etc.

For medical professionals

We regularly provide training to medical professionals around the lived experience of having Down syndrome from a parental perspective and we share best practise around talking about Down syndrome, sharing the news baby has/may have Down syndrome and the importance of attitude and understanding around Down syndrome, and ensuring language used is respectful and not discriminatory. If you would like further information or to arrange a training session, please contact us.

For education professionals

As well as providing Makaton training to preschool providers, we are introducing regular training events to EYFS settings around a range of topics relating to working with children with Down syndrome, including a general introduction, promoting inclusion and positive behaviour, toileting, communication, and development.

We'd love to hear from you!
